Wintry Mix and Strong Winds Expected in D.C. Region This Weekend

A wintry mix is expected through early Saturday afternoon, particularly in areas north and west of D.C., where a winter weather advisory remains in effect.

After a snowy week, the D.C. area faces slippery conditions this weekend. The mix of snow, sleet, and rain will transition to steady rain as temperatures rise. The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for parts of Maryland and Virginia, in effect until 7 p.m. Saturday.

Weekend Forecast Highlights:

🔹 Saturday:

  • A mix of snow and rain through early afternoon.
  • Most roads should remain clear, but elevated areas above 1,000 feet may experience freezing conditions.
  • High temperatures between 35-40°F.
  • Rain persists into the night.

🔹 Sunday:

  • Wind gusts up to 60 mph in the afternoon.
  • Temperatures rise to the 60s as a warm front moves in.
  • Another round of rain and possible thunderstorms in the early afternoon.
  • Total weekend rainfall: 1-1.5 inches.

🔹 Monday – Wednesday:

  • Monday: Windy and colder with highs in the upper 30s to low 40s. Wind gusts up to 50 mph.
  • Wednesday: Potential for another snowstorm, but the forecast remains uncertain. Snow could begin accumulating late Wednesday into Thursday.

This weekend’s weather follows a recent winter storm that dropped 4-10 inches of snow across the region, much of which melted midweek due to warmer temperatures.
