LAUREL, Md. — To help ensure safety during the summer months, Mayor Keith R. Sydnor has announced a temporary juvenile curfew for the City of Laurel, effective this Friday through August 31.
The curfew restricts anyone under 17 from being in public spaces between 11:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. each night. This initiative is intended to promote public safety and protect youth during late-night hours.
There are a few exceptions to the rule, including:
-
If the minor is accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
-
If returning home within one hour after attending:
-
School functions
-
Religious or volunteer group events
-
Public entertainment such as movies, concerts, or sports games
-
-
If the minor is working and can show valid proof of employment upon request.
The Laurel Police Department will enforce the curfew following established city regulations.
Mayor Sydnor highlighted the importance of the initiative, stating:
“As Mayor, ensuring the safety of our young people is a top priority. This temporary curfew is a proactive measure to help keep our community safe during the busy summer season. We ask parents and guardians to discuss the curfew with their children and support our efforts to protect them.”
