Frederick, Md. (KM) — A juvenile is facing adult charges after a traffic stop in Frederick County last week uncovered a stolen firearm.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies stopped a car around 8:30 p.m. Thursday in the 3400 block of Urbana Pike. Upon approaching the vehicle, deputies detected the smell of marijuana and observed open alcohol containers inside. All three occupants, who were under 21, were ordered out of the vehicle for a search.
During the search, a loaded handgun was found in one occupant’s pants. The firearm had been reported stolen in West Virginia in July of last year, one of 13 weapons taken in the incident. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives is continuing to investigate as part of efforts to recover the stolen guns.
The juvenile has been charged with multiple offenses, including:
- Possession of a Firearm by a Minor
- Possession of Ammunition by a Minor
- Possession of a Stolen Regulated Firearm
- Carrying a Loaded Handgun on Person
- Carrying a Handgun on Person
- Carrying a Loaded Handgun in a Vehicle
- Carrying a Handgun in a Vehicle
The juvenile was taken to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
