ATM Thefts in Prince George’s County Lead to Arrests of Three D.C. Men
PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. — Authorities have charged three D.C. men with stealing approximately $200,000 in a series of ATM robberies at 7-Eleven stores in Prince George’s County between late January and early February.
Jeff Crews, 33, David Jerome Walker, 39, and Maurice Roots, 34, allegedly used hydraulic rescue tools, commonly known as the “Jaws of Life,” to break into ATMs across the county, police announced Monday. The trio was taken into custody on March 19.
“Crime has no boundaries or borders,” State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy stated during a press conference. “We must continue working together within Prince George’s County and beyond to hold offenders fully accountable.”
Crews and Walker are facing charges related to five completed robberies and one attempted robbery between Jan. 29 and Feb. 22. Roots is charged in connection with the final robbery on Feb. 22. Authorities suspect they may have been involved in additional ATM thefts, and further charges could follow.
The suspects allegedly targeted ATMs at various 7-Eleven locations in Prince George’s County, using the Jaws of Life to force open the machines and steal tens of thousands of dollars at each site.
The robberies and attempted robberies linked to Crews and Walker occurred at:
- Jan. 29: 7-Eleven on Cherry Hill Road in Beltsville
- Jan. 29: 7-Eleven on Watkins Park Drive in Upper Marlboro
- Feb. 1: 7-Eleven on Good Luck Road in Lanham
- Feb. 6: 7-Eleven on Oxon Hill Road in Oxon Hill
- Feb. 19: 7-Eleven on Baltimore Avenue in Beltsville
- Feb. 22: 7-Eleven on Lanham Severn Road in Lanham
The final robbery on Feb. 22 reportedly involved all three suspects.
Crews and Walker were arrested in D.C. with assistance from the Metropolitan Police Department, while the Prince George’s County Fugitive Unit apprehended Roots in Clinton. Authorities searching their homes found firearms, cash, vehicles, and other evidence.
Crews faces 43 charges, Walker faces 45 charges, and Roots is charged with seven counts. Since Crews and Walker were arrested in D.C., they remain in custody there awaiting extradition, while Roots is being held without bond at the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections.
Police Chief Malik Aziz noted that Crews had previously served eight years in prison for a Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) case in 2017.
“We arrested him, and we’re sending him back,” Aziz said.
The investigation remains active, and authorities are urging anyone with information to contact detectives at 301-516-2830.
