Suspect in North Bethesda Homicide Apprehended in North Carolina

Frederick, Md. (DG) – Authorities have arrested an 18-year-old in connection with the fatal shooting of 29-year-old Akwalabeng Fontava in North Bethesda.

Police reported that Joshua Carter was apprehended on October 8th in Fayetteville, North Carolina, without incident. Investigators identified Carter as one of two suspects involved in Fontava’s death, which occurred on September 21st inside the victim’s apartment. He now faces several charges, including first-degree murder, kidnapping, and armed robbery.

The second suspect, 25-year-old Justin Collins, remains at large. Montgomery County Police are urging anyone with information about Collins’ location to contact authorities.
