State Trooper Hit by Suspected DUI Driver in Prince George’s County

Maryland State Police have arrested a man in connection with an early morning crash in Prince George’s County that left a state trooper injured. Authorities say the incident is being investigated as a suspected impaired driving case, and the investigation remains ongoing.

The crash occurred around 7 a.m. Saturday along southbound Branch Avenue near Moores Road. According to Maryland State Police, troopers were responding to reports of a separate crash in the area when one trooper stopped to check on an unoccupied vehicle that was parked in the right travel lane.

Police said the trooper’s marked patrol vehicle was positioned behind the parked car with emergency lights activated. While the trooper was outside the patrol car, a black Ford F-150 traveling southbound struck the rear of the patrol vehicle. The impact caused the patrol car to lurch forward and strike the trooper.

The injured trooper was transported to the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center for treatment. Authorities later confirmed that the trooper has since been released from the hospital. No additional details about the extent of the injuries were provided.

Investigators identified the driver of the Ford F-150 as 32-year-old Rayshaud Davon Shield of Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Shield was taken into custody by Maryland State Police and charged with suspected impaired driving, along with additional charges related to the crash. He is currently being held at the Prince George’s County Detention Center.

The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration assisted with traffic control and road closures in the area following the collision. Troopers assigned to the Maryland State Police College Park Barrack are leading the investigation, which officials say remains active.

Authorities have not released further details regarding the cause of the crash or whether additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
