WESTMINSTER, Md. (KM) — The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office is alerting residents about a recurring scam where callers pose as law enforcement officers.
Scammers are telling people they’ve missed jury duty and face an arrest warrant, but claim the issue can be resolved by paying fines through gift cards or cash apps.
Officials stress that legitimate law enforcement agencies never demand payment this way. Residents are advised to hang up immediately or delete suspicious emails.
Anyone uncertain about the validity of a call should contact the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office Duty Officer at 410-386-5900 or reach out to their local police department.
