Second Free Flu Clinic Planned for Uninsured Children in Frederick County

Frederick, Md – The Frederick County Health Department will host a second flu vaccination clinic this fall for uninsured children. The event is scheduled for Friday, October 17, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Health Department offices located at 350 Montevue Lane.

The flu shots are free, but families are required to schedule appointments in advance by calling 301-600-1733.

According to the Health Department, the clinic is open to children up to 18 years old who do not have health insurance, whose insurance does not cover vaccinations, or who cannot be vaccinated by their regular health care provider. The clinic date coincides with a day off for Frederick County Public Schools, allowing easier access for families.

Children 17 years or younger must be accompanied by an adult 18 or older. If a parent or guardian cannot attend, a signed authorization note must be provided to the accompanying adult. All children who receive vaccinations will be observed for a short period after receiving their shots.

Health officials emphasize that individuals most at risk for the flu and its complications include children under five, adults 65 and older, pregnant women, and those with chronic health conditions such as asthma, diabetes, or heart disease, as well as individuals undergoing immune-suppressing treatments like chemotherapy.
