WALKERSVILLE, Md. (May 14, 2025 – 2:53 PM) — Emergency crews searched the Monocacy River on Wednesday for a missing kayaker after an empty kayak was discovered, but the individual remains unaccounted for.
According to reports from the Frederick Scanner Facebook page, a 911 call came in shortly after noon, stating that someone had launched a kayak from Links Bridge Road. The unmanned kayak was later found near Devilbiss Bridge Road, prompting a multi-agency search.
Fire and rescue teams from Frederick County, along with the Sheriff’s Office, Maryland Natural Resources Police, and Loudoun County Fire and Rescue, scoured the river using both ground crews and drones. A kayak matching the missing person’s was located near the Route 26 bridge, but no sign of the kayaker was found.
Search efforts focused on areas near Links Bridge Road and Reichs Ford Road. Devilbiss Bridge Road was temporarily closed to ensure the safety of rescue personnel.
By 3:30 PM, the active search was called off, and the scene was turned over to the Maryland Natural Resources Police for further investigation.
