Consumers in several states are being urged to check their freezers after federal officials announced a recall involving certain bags of frozen vegetables that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. According to a notice released Thursday by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the recall affects Endico brand 2.5-pound bags of frozen peas and carrots, as well as mixed vegetables, due to potential health risks linked to the harmful bacteria.
The recalled products were manufactured by Endico Potatoes Inc., a company based in Mount Vernon, New York. Distribution occurred between July 18 and August 4, 2025, reaching customers in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Maryland, Florida, and Washington, D.C. Consumers in these regions are advised to carefully review their frozen food purchases to determine whether they have any of the impacted items at home.
The FDA shared the specific lot codes included in the recall to help shoppers identify affected products:
-
Peas and Carrots: Lot 110625, produced on 6/11/25, with a use-by date of 6/10/27
-
Mixed Vegetables: Lot 170625, produced on 6/17/25, with a use-by date of 6/16/27
At the time of the announcement, no illnesses had been reported, but testing conducted at a Pennsylvania distributor detected the presence of Listeria monocytogenes, prompting immediate action. The FDA emphasized that listeria infections can pose serious and sometimes life-threatening health risks, particularly for young children, older adults, pregnant individuals, and people with weakened immune systems. In severe cases, the infection may lead to miscarriages or stillbirths.
Even healthy individuals can experience uncomfortable symptoms such as fever, headaches, nausea, abdominal pain, stiffness, and diarrhea. Because of these potential risks, officials recommend that anyone who purchased the recalled vegetables should return them to the retailer for a full refund. Customers who need additional assistance or have questions about the recall can reach Endico directly at 1-800-431-1398.
This recall serves as an important reminder for consumers to stay vigilant about food safety alerts and routinely check product labels, especially when it comes to frozen goods that may remain stored for long periods.
