A man from Prince George’s County, Maryland, has been arrested in connection with a home invasion in Great Mills, according to the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were dispatched to a residence on the 45000 block of Military Lane around 8:21 p.m. on Friday after a 911 call reported a man attempting to break in. During the call, deputies overheard a “loud disturbance” as the suspect forced his way into the home, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
Upon arrival, deputies encountered 38-year-old Robert Eric Hyatt Jr., of Fort Washington, who surrendered without resistance. Authorities said Hyatt was armed with a 9mm handgun, brass knuckles, a large knife, and was wearing body armor.
A resident was found on the balcony with a gunshot wound to the shoulder and a head laceration. The victim was airlifted to a local hospital by the Maryland State Police Aviation Command.
Hyatt faces 10 charges, including attempted first- and second-degree murder and first- and second-degree assault. He is being held at the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center in Leonardtown.
The sheriff’s office’s Criminal Investigations Division is leading the case. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Detective Benjamin Raley at 301-475-4200, ext. 8076, or via email.
