Authorities have confirmed that an explosive device discovered in a storage unit in Hillcrest Heights has been safely neutralized.
HILLCREST HEIGHTS, Md. — On Wednesday night, officials worked to disarm an explosive device found inside a storage unit along Suitland Road in Hillcrest Heights, Maryland. The discovery led to road closures and a significant emergency response.
The Prince George’s County Fire Department Bomb Squad was dispatched to the scene at 4410 Suitland Road, where the device was located. Police were also present at a nearby address, 4414 Suitland Road, as part of the ongoing operation.
According to a fire department spokesperson, there was no immediate danger to the public or surrounding property, and no detonation occurred.
Emergency services provided updates through X (formerly Twitter), alerting the public to the situation. One post read, “Explosive device investigation, 4414 Suitland Rd. PGFD Bomb Squad on scene. Expect road closures and emergency vehicles in the vicinity.”
Another update confirmed the device was found inside a storage unit in the 4410 block of Suitland Road, prompting the bomb squad’s involvement.
By 9:30 p.m., officials reported the device had been rendered safe. At this time, there is no information on who created or placed the device.
Roads that were temporarily closed during the investigation have since reopened.
