OLNEY, Md. — A 17-year-old is facing adult charges following a deadly crash in Olney earlier this year.
Montgomery County Police say Caleb Jacob Alie was driving a Jeep Wrangler at 86 mph in a 40-mph zone on February 19. Investigators also believe he was using his cellphone at the time of the crash.
In addition to speeding, Alie reportedly drove through right-turn-only lanes to bypass vehicles stopped at red lights and made several aggressive lane changes as he weaved through traffic.
Just before 2:45 p.m., Alie’s Jeep crashed into a blue 2013 Lexus RX350 SUV on Olney-Sandy Spring Road (MD-108), near Prince Philip Drive.
The impact left 56-year-old Isadore Morton Gudelsky unresponsive and trapped in the Lexus. He was transported to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries. A woman who was in the Lexus with him managed to escape and was treated for minor injuries.
Alie was also hospitalized after the crash. He later turned himself in and has been charged as an adult with vehicular manslaughter due to gross negligence. He is currently being held at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, awaiting a bond hearing.
