Police are seeking public assistance in identifying a suspect connected to an assault on the Northwest Branch Trail in Silver Spring

Authorities are seeking assistance from the public in identifying an individual believed to be connected to a serious assault that occurred on the Northwest Branch Trail in Silver Spring, Maryland. According to the Maryland National Capital Park Police, the incident took place on November 1 at approximately 11 a.m. along a section of the trail located between Oakview Drive and Piney Branch Road. Investigators have classified the incident as an aggravated assault and say it remains an active investigation.

In an effort to advance the case, Park Police released a composite sketch of the person they believe may be responsible for the attack. Officials hope the image, combined with a detailed physical description, will prompt someone in the community to come forward with useful information. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male estimated to be between 18 and 22 years old. He is believed to stand between 5 feet 11 inches and 6 feet tall and weigh approximately 130 pounds, with a slim build.

At the time of the incident, the individual was reportedly wearing eyeglasses with black frames similar to those shown in the released sketch. His clothing was described as dark-colored joggers, a dark zip-up hoodie, black sneakers with white soles, and a black beanie. Police also noted that the suspect had wavy hair reaching approximately ear length, a feature that may help distinguish him from others.

Park Police officials are emphasizing the importance of community cooperation, stating that even small or seemingly insignificant details could be valuable to investigators. Anyone who recognizes the individual or has information related to the assault is encouraged to contact the Park Police tip line at 301-929-2748 or submit tips via email to crimetips@mncparkpolice.org.

Authorities have also issued a clear safety advisory to the public. They strongly urge residents not to attempt to approach, confront, or detain the individual themselves. Instead, police ask that any relevant information be shared directly with law enforcement so the matter can be handled safely and appropriately. The investigation remains ongoing as officials work to identify and locate the person connected to the November assault.
