Overturned Dump Truck Spills Gravel, Shuts Down Lanes on I-495

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — A collision between a dump truck and a Ford Transit van is causing major traffic delays Tuesday afternoon on the Outer Loop of I-495 near Montgomery County.

Maryland State Police said troopers from the Rockville Barrack responded just after 1:00 p.m. to the southbound lanes of I-495, shortly past Exit 41 (Clara Barton Parkway). Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.

Aerial footage from SKY9 showed the dump truck on its side, with a large amount of gravel spilled across the roadway. Two lanes remain blocked as cleanup crews work the scene, and traffic is backed up for roughly 6.5 miles.

The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration is on site assisting with cleanup efforts and managing the lane closures. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Motorists are encouraged to take alternate routes and prepare for extended delays throughout the afternoon. Stay tuned for updates.
