County agencies throughout the Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia region are continuing cleanup operations following Sunday’s winter storm, with officials reporting significant progress on major roadways. In Prince George’s County, leaders say the vast majority of primary and secondary roads are now clear and accessible as crews shift their focus to residential neighborhoods.
According to county officials, snow removal efforts initially concentrated on major thoroughfares to ensure emergency vehicles could travel safely throughout the area. County Executive Aisha Braveboy stated that approximately 99 percent of the county’s primary and secondary roads have been plowed multiple times and are currently passable for drivers. With those critical routes largely addressed, snow crews are now working through neighborhood streets.
Braveboy noted that some residential road clearing began Sunday evening, though the size of the county and the number of communities involved mean the work will take additional time. She expressed confidence that crews are making steady progress and expect to reach remaining neighborhoods over the next few days.
Despite the progress, some residents remain concerned as they wait for plows to reach their streets. Along Denton Drive in Clinton, neighbors reported difficulties navigating unplowed roads. Residents said they have seen vehicles struggle to leave the area, raising concerns for those who need to travel for essential reasons, including medical appointments.
County leaders acknowledged those concerns and emphasized that assistance is available for residents who face urgent needs. Braveboy encouraged anyone requiring transportation for critical medical care, such as dialysis or other necessary treatments, to contact the county’s 311 service. Officials said arrangements can be made to help ensure residents are safely transported to their appointments during recovery efforts.
In addition to road clearing, Prince George’s County has introduced a new initiative aimed at supporting older residents during winter weather. The program, known as Operation Silver Shovel, is designed to help seniors who may be physically unable to remove snow from their properties. Through this effort, the county will dispatch workers to assist eligible residents with snow removal at their homes.
County officials reiterated that cleanup operations are ongoing and urged residents to remain patient as crews work through remaining areas. Leaders emphasized that public safety remains the top priority as agencies continue restoring normal travel conditions across the county.
