Authorities in Montgomery County are investigating a traffic incident that occurred Sunday afternoon in the area of Old Columbia Pike and Musgrove Road. The Montgomery County Police Department reports that units responded around 1:30 p.m. and located an SUV involved in a single-vehicle collision.
According to officials, the driver—an adult woman—was found unresponsive, and emergency personnel later confirmed that she was deceased. A passenger in the vehicle was taken to a hospital for evaluation and is expected to recover.
The department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit is working to determine the circumstances that led to the incident. Preliminary information indicates that the vehicle had been traveling south on Old Columbia Pike before the collision occurred. Investigators stated that no additional vehicles were involved and that initial observations did not suggest outside contributing factors at the scene.
As part of the ongoing review, detectives will examine several possibilities, including driver condition, road surface factors, vehicle performance, and any medical or mechanical issues that may have played a role. Officials noted that full collision analyses often require time to complete due to the need for interviews, vehicle examinations, and data assessments.
The driver’s identity has not been released pending notification of family members. Police will provide updates as new information becomes available.
Investigators are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who may have relevant dashboard camera footage, to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit. Officials emphasized that community assistance is often crucial in helping clarify what occurred and in supporting broader traffic-safety efforts.
