SILVER SPRING, Md. — Fire officials in Montgomery County are looking into two early Monday morning vehicle fires in Silver Spring as possible cases of arson. According to a department spokesperson, the total estimated damage to the vehicles and a nearby building is around $30,000.
Emergency crews responded around 3:30 a.m. to the 2200 block of Randolph Road, near the Country Boy Market in the Glenmont Shopping Center. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered two separate vehicles ablaze, with one fire having spread to the building’s awning. Crews quickly contained and extinguished the flames. No injuries were reported.
Pete Piringer of Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services reported that the fire caused roughly $20,000 in damage to the building and about $10,000 to the box truck and van combined.
Piringer added that investigators believe the fires were deliberately set, though the exact cause is still under review.
At this time, no suspect information has been released, and the investigation remains ongoing.
