Montgomery County Teacher Charged in Fatal Fentanyl Overdose Appears in Federal Court

Montgomery County Teacher Faces Federal Charges for Alleged Fentanyl Sale Leading to Overdose Death

A Montgomery County teacher, Sarah Magid, 34, has been federally charged with distributing fentanyl resulting in death. Magid, who taught at Charles Drew Elementary School, was initially arrested in August on drug distribution charges.

The case centers around a March overdose death in a D.C. home. Prosecutors allege Magid supplied the fentanyl-laced pills that led to the victim’s death. Text messages exchanged between Magid and the victim, dating back to January, reportedly discussed drug transactions, including pills resembling oxycodone but containing fentanyl.

The victim was found dead shortly after meeting Magid, with the D.C. medical examiner ruling fentanyl toxicity as the cause of death.

In July, a tip suggested Magid had left her classroom during the school day to sell drugs outside. Investigators later found evidence on her phone supporting allegations of drug dealing during school hours.

Magid, employed by Montgomery County Public Schools since 2022, appeared in U.S. District Court in Greenbelt before Judge Gina L. Simms. If convicted, she faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years in prison, with the possibility of life imprisonment.
