A Montgomery County police sergeant with 16 years of service has been arrested and is facing multiple charges related to child sex crimes.
Authorities say Sgt. Mark Burhoe was taken into custody on Thursday by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office and is charged with several counts of possessing child pornography.
Burhoe has been suspended without pay while the criminal investigation continues.
Alongside the ongoing investigation by the sheriff’s office, Montgomery County Police will also conduct an internal review in line with department policies.
In an official statement, the department expressed concern over the charges, stating:
“These allegations are extremely serious, and the actions of one individual should not reflect on the entire department. We remain committed to maintaining public trust through transparency and professionalism throughout this investigation.”
The case remains under active investigation.
