Chiropractor’s License Suspended Following Allegations of Misconduct in Montgomery County
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — A Montgomery County chiropractor, Bobbak Mozafari, has had his license suspended for at least three months after allegations of inappropriate conduct with a patient.
Mozafari, licensed in Maryland since 2013, became the subject of a Maryland State Board of Chiropractic Examiners investigation in August 2023 after a complaint alleged he had sexually assaulted one patient and crossed professional boundaries with two others.
As part of the investigation, the board interviewed Mozafari, a witness chiropractor, two patients, and reviewed text messages and social media screenshots. The complaint was initially raised by the witness chiropractor, who reported hearing from a patient that her friend had an uncomfortable experience with Mozafari.
One patient accused Mozafari of inappropriate touching in January 2022. Another claimed he made explicit comments during treatment eight years earlier, which made her uncomfortable. Mozafari denied the explicit comments and assault but admitted to crossing a professional boundary with one patient, stating the interaction was consensual and initiated by her.
The board suspended Mozafari’s license for a minimum of one year, with nine months stayed. This means he is effectively suspended for at least three months, during which he cannot practice chiropractic, advertise as a licensed chiropractor, or perform any tasks requiring a chiropractic license. Additionally, Mozafari must complete board-approved training on professional ethics and boundaries within six months.
Following the suspension, Mozafari can apply for reinstatement, but he will remain on probation for five years if approved. During the first year of probation, he will not be permitted to treat female patients without a chaperone. He is also required to pay a $2,500 fine.
The consent order, signed by Mozafari on Dec. 17, 2024, went into effect on Jan. 9, and his license is currently suspended according to the Maryland State Board of Chiropractic Examiners’ verification tool.
