Montgomery County Police confirmed that the missing teen was located safe and unharmed just before midnight on Wednesday.
Earlier that evening, officers had requested the public’s assistance in locating a non-verbal 15-year-old girl with autism who had gone missing around 6:30 p.m. in the 8600 block of 16th Street in Silver Spring. The teen was last seen wearing blue jeans, a denim shirt, and brown boots. She is described as 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighing approximately 140 pounds.
Authorities reminded the public that when interacting with individuals with autism, it is important to remain calm, move slowly, avoid sudden noises or gestures, and use a gentle, reassuring tone. They also urged anyone who spots a missing person in similar situations to call 911 and wait for police assistance.
