A routine traffic enforcement stop in Frederick County during the early morning hours of January 28, 2026, resulted in the seizure of a significant quantity of suspected methamphetamine and the arrest of a Keedysville man on multiple drug-related charges, according to the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies reported that the incident occurred at approximately 4:55 a.m. along Route 144 near the intersection with Terra Firma Road. Law enforcement officials stated that deputies initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for reasons that were not immediately disclosed. During the encounter, deputies conducted an investigation that led to the discovery of suspected illegal narcotics and related items inside the vehicle.
Authorities said a search of the vehicle revealed more than 42 grams of suspected methamphetamine. Among the substances recovered were two large crystal-like formations believed to be methamphetamine, along with an additional 14 grams contained inside a plastic container. Deputies also located several used hypodermic needles, which investigators identified as drug paraphernalia.
Following the discovery, deputies took the driver into custody. The suspect was identified as 57-year-old Richard Stone Jr. of Keedysville, Maryland. Sheriff’s officials confirmed that Stone was arrested at the scene without incident and transported for processing.
Stone has been formally charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Court records and additional charging documents were not immediately available, and it was not disclosed whether Stone faces additional charges related to drug distribution or intent to distribute. The seized substances are expected to undergo laboratory testing to confirm their composition.
The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office emphasized that routine traffic stops remain a critical tool in identifying illegal drug activity within the community. Officials noted that methamphetamine continues to pose a serious threat to public health and safety, particularly due to its highly addictive nature and association with other criminal activity.
