Maryland deputy charged with child sexual offenses

The alleged incidents occurred in 2016.

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, Md. — A deputy sheriff in Anne Arundel County has been charged with the sexual abuse of a minor.

On March 3, the Anne Arundel County Sheriff’s Office informed the county police department about allegations involving one of its deputies. Investigators determined that the abuse took place in 2016, prompting an inquiry by the Child and Vulnerable Adult Abuse Unit.

On Wednesday, detectives filed charges through the Anne Arundel County Court Commissioner, resulting in a warrant for 42-year-old Anthony Nickoles. He was arrested in Annapolis and charged with multiple offenses, including sexual abuse of a minor, third-degree and fourth-degree sexual offenses, and second-degree assault.

The Anne Arundel County Sheriff’s Office is working with the police department’s Criminal Investigation Division as the case remains active.

Sheriff Everett L. Sesker emphasized that the actions of one individual do not represent the integrity and dedication of the department, reaffirming their commitment to accountability and cooperation in the investigation.
