BOWIE, Md. — A 40-year-old man is facing murder charges following the death of his mother during a domestic incident.
Police were called to the 12000 block of Blackwell Lane on Sunday afternoon after receiving reports of a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, officers found a woman outside the residence who appeared to have been assaulted.
Inside the home, police discovered 72-year-old Susan Calero unresponsive and suffering from severe injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The woman found outside was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect, identified as James Calero, had left the scene before police arrived. He was later located and arrested by Anne Arundel County Police.
James Calero is now in custody and has been charged with first-degree murder, assault, and additional related offenses.
The Prince George’s County Police Department, which handles all homicide cases in Bowie, has taken over the investigation.
