Authorities report that a 30-year-old Maryland man, Octavio Antonio Estevez, was taken into custody in Spotsylvania, Virginia, following a stabbing incident that occurred in Montgomery County. According to information released by the Montgomery County Department of Police, three people were injured in the November 3 event, including two of Estevez’s family members and a bystander who attempted to help.
Incident Overview
Police say officers were dispatched to the 10 block of Indian Hills Court in Rockville shortly after 9:30 a.m. for a report of a suspicious situation. When officers arrived, they found two women and one man with injuries consistent with stab wounds. All three individuals were transported to a nearby hospital, where their conditions were determined to be non-life-threatening.
What Police Say Happened
Investigators believe Estevez was inside the residence when an altercation occurred, resulting in his mother being injured. When his grandmother attempted to intervene, she was also harmed during the incident. A nearby good Samaritan, who entered the home out of concern, was injured as well while attempting to assist the victims.
Police say Estevez fled the home before officers arrived, prompting a multi-agency search across jurisdictions.
Arrest and Charges
Estevez was located four days later in Spotsylvania, Virginia, where local authorities took him into custody without incident. He remains held in Virginia as officials coordinate his extradition to Montgomery County, where he will face prosecution.
According to police, Estevez is currently charged with three counts of first-degree assault, though investigators note that additional charges may be considered as the case moves forward.
Ongoing Investigation
Detectives continue to review the circumstances surrounding the incident and interview those involved. While a motive has not been released, authorities emphasize that all three victims are expected to recover.
Officials also acknowledged the efforts of the good Samaritan whose attempt to help may have prevented the situation from escalating further.
