Infinite Legacy Emphasizes Urgent Need for Organ and Tissue Donors

Frederick, Md. – The non-profit organization Infinite Legacy is emphasizing the urgent need for organ, eye, and tissue donors in Maryland and the D.C. Metro area. According to spokesperson Adam Falzarano, nearly 4,000 people in the region are awaiting organ transplants, with more than 100,000 on the national waiting list. Tragically, 13 people die each day because a needed transplant didn’t arrive in time.

“Organ donors make a tremendous impact,” said Falzarano. “One donor can save up to eight lives and help heal more than 75 others through tissue donation.”

Falzarano also pointed out the life-changing effect of living donations. “As a living donor, you get to see the difference you’ve made — you’re giving someone more time with their loved ones and a chance to continue living fully.”

He added that while many are aware of organ donations like kidneys or livers, tissue donations such as skin grafts are equally important. There is a growing need for more people to register as both deceased and living donors.

April is recognized as National Donate Life Month, and to honor this cause, a flag-raising ceremony will take place on Thursday, April 10 at 11:00 a.m. on the grounds of Frederick Health Hospital.

To register as a donor, individuals can sign up at their local MVA when renewing a license or state ID, or visit infinitelegacy.org to declare their intent online. Matching factors like blood type, tissue type, and size are critical in determining donor-recipient compatibility.
