Howard County Police Investigate Domestic-Related Double Homicide; Suspect Arrested

Ellicott City, MD – Howard County police are investigating a domestic-related homicide in Columbia, where two people were fatally shot overnight. The suspect was taken into custody at the scene.

Officers responded to a residence on Red Haven Road around 3:07 a.m. on February 24 after receiving reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they found a man with a gun sitting in a vehicle outside the home and arrested him. Inside the residence, police discovered two adults deceased from gunshot wounds.

The suspect, DiAngelo Smith, 33, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and related offenses in connection to the deaths of his grandparents, Jack Dee Stokes, 78, and Barbara Stokes, 65. Detectives believe Smith was living with the victims at the time.

According to the investigation, Smith allegedly shot both victims before returning to his vehicle.

He is currently being held without bail at the Howard County Detention Center. The case remains under investigation, with additional details expected to be released later.
