Heartbreaking and senseless’: Search for suspect continues months after young mother’s murder in District Heights

Prince George’s County police spent Wednesday afternoon visiting businesses in the Walker Mill Square Shopping Center, posting flyers on windows and speaking with employees about Raheem Hawkins-Boseman, 23, who is wanted for the March murder of 27-year-old Jessica Somerville in a nearby parking lot.

Officers stopped at places like Subway and Papa John’s, asking workers if they recognized Hawkins-Boseman. Nearly eight months after the shooting, police are still seeking information that could lead to his arrest. Investigators believe Hawkins-Boseman may have fled the area and potentially altered his appearance.

“We know people often return to familiar places. After eight months, he may feel it’s safe to come back,” said Lt. Shane Goudreau.

Hawkins-Boseman faces charges of first-degree murder and related offenses. Police focused on the Capitol Heights shopping center, as intelligence suggests it’s a location he’s previously visited.

The incident occurred just over a mile away in District Heights on March 17. According to police, Somerville and her friends, who had just finished work, were getting food at a Subway when Hawkins-Boseman confronted them. The group left and walked to their car, but Hawkins-Boseman followed and ultimately shot and killed Somerville.

“The interaction upset him, leading to an unthinkable act,” Goudreau explained. He described Somerville as a dedicated postal worker, a mother, and a beloved family member with no prior trouble.

Police revisited the area to share Hawkins-Boseman’s photo and remind the community of their ongoing search. “We want him and anyone helping him to know that we won’t stop looking,” Goudreau stated. He also warned those aiding Hawkins-Boseman that they could face prosecution.

A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to his arrest. Tipsters can contact Crime Solvers at 866-411-8477 or use the P3 Tips mobile app.
