Hayao Miyazaki
launches his first film in ten years in Japan today dubbed The Boy and the Heron. It is speculated that this will also be his last film. Gkids also announces that it has acquired the North
American rights for the film and will see an international launch later this year. Gkids has described the new animated feature drawn by hand as “an original story written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki.”
The co-founder of Studio Ghibli, Toshio Suzuki is the mind behind the production and the musical score is done by Joe Hisaishi. Notably, there was very little promotion around the film in Japan, with the same to be expected when it makes its way to North American screens as well.
