Montgomery County police are investigating a deadly shooting in Gaithersburg after a woman was found dead early Sunday morning.
Officers were called to the 9000 block of Centerway Road, near Goshen Road, around 2:42 a.m. for reports of gunfire. Inside a townhouse, they discovered an adult woman who had been fatally shot, authorities said.
Residents in the neighborhood expressed shock, saying they had never seen such an incident in their community. One longtime neighbor described the area as usually quiet and friendly, noting that the family living in the townhouse seemed like any other.
Neighbors also voiced concern that children may live in the home.
Police have not yet identified the victim or released any information about possible suspects.
The case remains under investigation.
