Frederick, Md. (KM) — Authorities are searching for a dog that bit a man Monday afternoon in Frederick.
According to the Frederick County Health Department, the incident happened around 5 p.m. near Waterside Drive and Blue Heron Drive. The dog, which was unaccompanied, bit a man who was walking in the area. Neighbors reported that the same dog is often seen roaming loose.
The animal is described as a brown-and-black hound mix weighing about 45 pounds.
Anyone with information about the dog or its owner is asked to call Frederick County Animal Control at 301-600-1544. Officials say the dog’s health must be monitored for 10 days after the bite. If the dog is healthy, it can return to normal activity and the victim won’t need rabies treatment. Without identifying the owner, however, the victim will be advised to undergo treatment.
The Health Department also urges anyone bitten or scratched by an animal to get the owner’s contact details and notify Animal Control.
