INDIAN HEAD, Md. — A former Charles County school employee was taken into custody Tuesday night following his indictment on charges related to soliciting a student for sex.
John Alan Lynch, 28, who worked as a building service worker at Henry E. Lackey High School for approximately seven years, was indicted by a grand jury on charges of sexual abuse of a minor, sexual solicitation of a minor, and solicitation for prostitution.
According to Principal Cheryl K. Davis, Lynch was fired in January after it was discovered that he had used his personal social media account to contact a student outside school hours. The student reported the messages, sent on Jan. 23, to a school resource officer, leading to Lynch’s immediate termination.
The Charles County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation that same day, which ultimately led to Lynch’s indictment. School officials confirmed that Lynch had passed both federal and state background checks upon his hiring in 2018, and Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) conducts routine background checks on employees every three years.
Detectives are still investigating and urge any additional victims who may have been contacted by Lynch to call Detective Sapienza at 301-609-6554.
