Forecasters reported that Saturday would begin with bitterly cold conditions, as morning temperatures lingered in the 20s across the region. The combination of an overnight refreeze and remaining moisture from Friday’s snowfall created potentially slick roadways, making early travel hazardous for anyone heading out. Meteorologist Jordan Evans of 7News First Alert Weather advised residents to remain cautious, noting that patchy freezing fog and icy spots were likely to develop as untreated surfaces froze again.
As the day progresses, temperatures are expected to gradually climb, eventually reaching the low to mid-40s under partly sunny skies. Evans emphasized that despite periods of sunshine, warming would be slow, and the air would remain chilly throughout much of the afternoon. Light winds across the area, as forecasted by the National Weather Service, will keep conditions relatively calm but still cold.
By Saturday night, the brief daytime improvement in temperatures will fade. Evans indicated that another frigid evening is anticipated, with overnight lows dropping back into the 20s, ranging between 22 and 28 degrees. However, he expressed optimism that drying conditions during the day should reduce the threat of additional refreezing on local roads.
Looking ahead to Sunday, the region is expected to see temperatures rise closer to seasonal norms. Highs should reach the mid-40s, accompanied by partly sunny skies. Although Sunday brings more cloud cover, the weather is forecasted to remain dry, offering favorable conditions for outdoor plans.
Evans also cautioned that the upcoming week may bring a chance of snow showers to the D.C. area. Monday’s temperatures will struggle to climb above the mid-30s, with wind chills making it feel significantly colder. A slight possibility of rain or snow is predicted for Wednesday night. While Wednesday’s high could approach the 50-degree mark before precipitation moves in, temperatures are expected to start recovering more consistently by Thursday.
