Fire and rescue officials in Montgomery County reported that a woman survived an early morning house fire after being pulled from her home by first responders. According to authorities, the woman owes her safety to the swift actions of Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service crews who arrived at her residence in time to assist her out of grave danger.
Shortly before 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, dispatchers received a call from the homeowner on the 11800 block of Gordon Drive. She informed emergency personnel that a fire had erupted inside her bedroom and that she was unable to escape on her own. Officials later explained that her limited mobility prevented her from getting out of the room as the fire intensified.
When firefighters reached the scene, they found the woman trapped on the second floor. Crews quickly set up ladders against the exterior of the house to gain access to the bedroom. They entered through the upper-level window and helped the woman outside, ensuring she was brought down safely despite the thick smoke spreading through the home. She was then transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation, and authorities said she is expected to recover.
Fire investigators examined the scene after the flames were extinguished. Their preliminary findings determined that the fire began in the woman’s bedroom, where a space heater placed on a dresser ignited nearby combustible materials. The blaze spread quickly, causing extensive damage throughout the room and affecting other parts of the home before firefighters were able to bring it under control.
The loss to the property was estimated at roughly $150,000. Investigators said the incident serves as a reminder of the risks associated with portable heating devices and urged residents to exercise caution as colder weather arrives.
