Fire investigators attribute $90K in damages to improperly discarded smoking materials

Arlington County Firefighter Injured in Floor Collapse; Three Hospitalized

WASHINGTON — Warm, dry weather over the weekend fueled multiple fires across the DMV.

In Arlington County, three firefighters were hospitalized after one fell through the floor while responding to a structure fire in the 4100 block of 36th St S. The fire was contained, and all three firefighters are expected to recover.

In Prince George’s County, fire crews battled a 12-acre brush fire near Research Road in Greenbelt, Maryland, on Sunday. The fire was far from homes and a nearby school, and no structures were damaged. Firefighters contained the blaze by 9 p.m. with no reported injuries.

In Fairfax County, crews responded to a house fire on Hill Stream Ct in Springfield around 3:30 p.m. Heavy smoke and flames were visible, but no injuries occurred. Investigators later determined the fire, which caused over $90,000 in damage, was accidental and sparked by the improper disposal of smoking materials.
