A Louisiana delivery driver has been arrested after investigators alleged he stole tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of packages and stored them inside a rented storage unit in Baton Rouge. The case, now under investigation by the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office, highlights growing concerns surrounding package theft and employee misconduct within delivery services.
According to authorities, property theft detectives began investigating on February 13 after receiving a report of a missing package that had not been delivered two days earlier. The complaint prompted a deeper inquiry into potential delivery irregularities. During the investigation, detectives identified 27-year-old Tyran Jackson, who was employed as a delivery driver for FedEx, as a suspect in the alleged theft.
Law enforcement officials discovered that the missing shipment had been traced to a storage unit located in the 10500 block of Perkins Road in Baton Rouge. After obtaining and executing a search warrant for the unit, investigators uncovered a substantial quantity of undelivered merchandise. Authorities reported that approximately $62,000 worth of stolen FedEx packages were found inside the storage facility.
Photos released by the sheriff’s office showed numerous unopened shipping boxes stacked inside the unit. Among the items reportedly recovered were Nike footwear boxes, large quantities of cigars, and various smoking accessories. Officials confirmed that the merchandise was cataloged and secured following the search.
After the evidence was processed, Jackson was located and taken into custody without incident. He was later booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on one count of felony theft. Authorities stated that they are not currently seeking additional victims, as the majority of the stolen goods were still under the care, custody, and control of FedEx at the time they were allegedly diverted. The recovered merchandise has since been returned to the company.
In a public statement, FedEx emphasized that the safety and security of customer shipments remains a top priority. A company spokesperson confirmed full cooperation with law enforcement and stated that the individual involved is no longer providing services on behalf of FedEx.
The investigation into the Louisiana package theft case remains ongoing as authorities continue reviewing evidence related to the alleged scheme.
