Fairfax County Police report that three men from Washington, D.C., were arrested after robbing the Ulta Beauty store at the Annapolis Mall.
Authorities say the group operated swiftly, strategically selecting locations and evaluating risks before striking. Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis described them as calculated criminals who planned their crimes based on accessibility to major highways and quick getaway routes.
On Monday evening, Anne Arundel County police arrested 21-year-old Damari Cousar, 28-year-old Rasaan Washington, and a 17-year-old male as they left the Annapolis Mall. Although no robbery occurred that night, police believe the trio is linked to at least 20 smash-and-grab thefts at Ulta Beauty stores across Anne Arundel and Prince William counties, with stolen merchandise valued at approximately $250,000.
The suspects primarily targeted high-end fragrances and beauty products. Police say their crimes escalated in violence, with one of them brandishing a firearm during a March 18 incident in Montgomery County, Maryland.
A tip from D.C. police alerted Anne Arundel officers that the suspects were heading to Maryland. Law enforcement used advanced technology, including modern license plate readers, to track them down. Officers identified and surrounded the suspects’ vehicle at the Annapolis Mall, preventing their escape.
Authorities suspect that the stolen goods were resold at discounted prices. Chief Davis warned the public to be cautious when purchasing items under suspicious circumstances, as they may be unknowingly buying stolen merchandise.
