Egg theft of 720 leads authorities to uncover a vehicle stolen from D.C. police

Authorities reported that the unusual egg theft in Takoma Park was carried out by two individuals who allegedly used a vehicle stolen from the Metropolitan Police Department. The incident, which drew significant attention due to its unusual nature, involved the disappearance of 60 dozen eggs from outside a local store.

According to information released by the Takoma Park Police Department, three suspects — identified as 21-year-old Luis Thompson-Jones of Washington, D.C., 32-year-old Jesus Juarez-Posadas of Hyattsville, and 25-year-old Joseph Arkong, also of Hyattsville — were taken into custody on Thursday. All three now face multiple charges, including possession of a stolen vehicle, theft, and several outstanding warrants.

Investigators explained that officers were dispatched to a business along University Boulevard East on Thursday morning after store employees discovered that three boxes containing a total of 720 eggs had vanished. The stolen eggs, valued at more than $800, were reportedly taken in the early morning hours. Surveillance footage from the store captured a gray Toyota Camry arriving shortly before 7:30 a.m. One individual emerged from the vehicle, collected the boxes of eggs, and then loaded them into the Camry before leaving the area.

An officer familiar with the vehicle recognized it from an earlier patrol near a hotel on New Hampshire Avenue. Around 2 p.m. that afternoon, investigators returned to the hotel’s rear parking lot and located the same gray Toyota Camry. When officers checked the registration, they discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen from the Metropolitan Police Department.

Shortly after locating the car, officers detained a man who exited the hotel and entered the vehicle believed to be stolen. Additional individuals were found inside one of the hotel rooms, and three of them were determined to have active arrest warrants in both Takoma Park and Montgomery County.

Police said two of the men were linked to the egg theft through matching clothing and items discovered inside the Camry, though investigators did not specify which suspects were directly involved. Authorities added that the case has led to further charges, including theft-related offenses, possession of a stolen vehicle, and possession of suspected controlled dangerous substances.
