Dog deliberately burned in a Prince George’s County community

Authorities in Prince George’s County are continuing to investigate a disturbing case in which a dog was intentionally set on fire and killed in Forestville. As of now, officials say no arrests have been made, and the circumstances surrounding the event remain under active review.

According to information released by county fire officials, the incident occurred Monday evening around 6:30 p.m. when multiple 911 callers reported a horrific scene. Witnesses said they saw a man pour gasoline on a dog and then ignite it near the intersection of Pomfrey Drive and Cross Street. The animal, engulfed in flames, reportedly fled into a nearby wooded area, which then caught fire as well.

Fire department spokesperson Mike Yourishin said that firefighters were immediately dispatched to the location. Upon arrival, they located both the burning brush and the severely injured dog. Despite quick efforts to control the flames and reach the animal, the dog did not survive the incident.

The deceased dog will undergo a necropsy, a procedure expected to take approximately one week, which may help investigators gather additional details about the animal’s condition and the exact events that transpired before its death.

Both the Prince George’s County Fire Department and county police have joined forces on the investigation. At this time, officials have not publicly released information about a possible suspect, motive, or the relationship—if any—between the dog and the individual witnesses reported seeing. Authorities emphasize that the investigation is ongoing, and they are urging anyone with information to come forward as they work to identify the person responsible.

No further details have been provided, but investigators expect more clarity after additional leads are reviewed and after the necropsy results become available.
