Traffic was briefly halted in both directions as officers safely detained a missing person.
WASHINGTON — A section of I-270 was temporarily shut down Thursday morning after police discovered a missing individual sitting on the highway’s center median.
The Montgomery County Police Department, in coordination with Maryland State Police, closed traffic lanes after locating a vehicle linked to a critically missing person from Manassas, Virginia, just before noon.
Authorities had responded to reports of a suspicious car parked near Longwood Drive by the Beltway wall. Upon investigation, they determined the vehicle belonged to the missing person.
Shortly after, officers received reports of someone walking near the Beltway and I-270. The missing person was later located sitting on the median near Rockledge Boulevard in North Bethesda.
Traffic in the area was temporarily stopped while officers ensured the individual was safely taken into custody.
The highway was reopened shortly afterward.
Police have not disclosed how long the individual had been reported missing prior to being found in Montgomery County.
