HAGERSTOWN, MD – The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal pedestrian accident that occurred Thursday evening near Hagerstown.
Deputies responded around 7:35 p.m. to the 11,500 block of Hopewell Road, where they discovered that Terry Lee Sines, 62, of Clear Spring, had stopped his vehicle in the southbound lane to assist an injured animal in the roadway.
A Chevrolet Malibu traveling northbound initially failed to see Sines and swerved in an attempt to avoid hitting him. However, Sines was struck by the driver’s side mirror of the Malibu.
Sines was pronounced dead at the scene.
The roadway remained closed until approximately 11:00 p.m. as the Crash Reconstruction Team conducted its investigation.
