Car Fire Spreads to Silver Spring Home; Residents and Pet Escape Safely

SILVER SPRING, Md. — A vehicle fire that broke out in a garage Sunday night extended into a Silver Spring home, but fortunately, two residents and a pet were able to evacuate without serious injury.

Firefighters responded shortly after 8 p.m. to the 10000 block of Meadowneck Court following reports of a garage fire. Neighbors reported thick black smoke pouring from the property. Upon arrival, crews found a hybrid vehicle in the garage fully engulfed in flames, with the fire having spread to the home’s second floor.

The homeowner had attempted to control the blaze before firefighters arrived. He was evaluated on scene for minor injuries related to that effort.

Fire crews acted swiftly to bring the fire under control. While no major injuries were reported, the fire caused extensive damage.

According to Montgomery County Fire & Rescue spokesperson Pete Piringer, the blaze began with the vehicle and then spread to nearby flammable items, including a bag of charcoal and wood chip fire starters. Damages are estimated at around $350,000.
