Maryland Attorney General’s Office Continues Investigation into February Incident
OXON HILL, Md. — The Independent Investigations Division (IID) of the Maryland Attorney General’s Office is still examining a fatal pedestrian crash involving police officers in Prince George’s County from February.
On Monday, the IID released body camera footage from the incident.
According to a preliminary investigation, officers located a stolen vehicle in a parking lot on the 6000 block of Oxon Hill Road on Feb. 1, just before 8 p.m. They observed a woman, later identified as 23-year-old Aniyah Redd, enter the driver’s seat.
Police from Prince George’s County, Forest Heights, and Edmonston attempted to stop the vehicle, but Redd refused to comply. She crashed in the back of the parking lot, though authorities did not specify what she struck.
After the crash, Redd exited the car and attempted to cross I-495, where she was hit by two vehicles. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Both drivers remained on-site and cooperated with authorities.
The officers involved have been identified as Sergeant Timonthy Shomper and Corporal David Gross of Prince George’s County Police, along with Officer Aaron Hazel, a 10-month veteran of the Forest Heights Police Department. It is unclear whether they were placed on leave during the investigation.
