A homicide investigation remains ongoing in Montgomery County following the fatal shooting of 87-year-old Robert Fuller Jr. at a senior living facility in Potomac. Authorities have confirmed that no arrests have been made as detectives continue working to determine the circumstances surrounding the deadly incident.
According to the Montgomery County Police Department, officers and fire rescue personnel responded at approximately 7:34 a.m. Saturday to a reported medical emergency at Cogir of Potomac Senior Living. The facility is located in the 10800 block of Potomac Tennis Lane, adjacent to Falls Road Golf Course. Upon arrival, first responders discovered Fuller suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Despite life-saving efforts at the scene, he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
Police confirmed that detectives are treating the case as a homicide. Fuller’s body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of death. Investigators have not released any suspect information, and law enforcement officials have stated that the investigation remains active and ongoing.
Robert Fuller Jr. was widely recognized as an accomplished attorney, author, and philanthropist with longstanding ties to Maine. He was also the great-great-grandson of Melville Fuller, who served as Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court in the late 19th century. Fuller’s professional achievements and family legacy have drawn additional attention to the tragic case.
In a message sent to residents and families, Cogir of Potomac Executive Director Rachel Grant assured the community that safety remains a top priority. She indicated that the incident appears to be isolated and that there is no ongoing threat to residents or staff. Out of respect for those involved and to preserve the integrity of the investigation, specific details have not been publicly disclosed.
The senior living facility has reportedly increased security measures since the shooting, including the addition of extra security personnel. Counseling and support services are also being made available to residents and staff affected by the tragedy.
