Police in Prince George’s County are investigating a fatal collision that claimed the life of a Virginia man early Sunday morning in Oxon Hill. Authorities have identified the victim as 57-year-old Percell Jerome Veney Jr. of Alexandria. The crash occurred in the 6300 block of Oxon Hill Road near the Riverside Plaza Apartments around 1 a.m., when officers were called to the scene after reports of a two-vehicle collision.
When emergency personnel arrived, they found Veney Jr. deceased at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash. Another individual involved, identified only as a woman who occupied the second vehicle, was rushed to a nearby hospital where she remains in critical condition, according to police officials.
Preliminary findings from the Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit suggest that Veney Jr. was driving westbound on Oxon Hill Road when, for reasons still under investigation, his vehicle crossed into the eastbound turning lane and collided with the oncoming car. Investigators have not yet determined whether speed, impairment, or road conditions were contributing factors in the crash.
