Charges have been formally filed against a 19-year-old driver following the conclusion of an investigation into a fatal rollover crash that took place in Germantown, Maryland, last summer. The crash resulted in the death of a local woman and left the other driver seriously injured, according to police.
The incident occurred at approximately 10:35 p.m. on July 21 at the intersection of Great Seneca Highway and Mateny Road. Investigators determined that Mary Moody was driving a Subaru and was in the process of making a left-hand turn when her vehicle was struck by a northbound Mazda. Authorities stated that the force of the collision caused the Subaru to overturn, ejecting Moody from the vehicle.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the crash. Despite lifesaving efforts, Moody was pronounced dead at the scene due to the severity of her injuries. The driver of the Mazda, later identified as 19-year-old Brody Richardson of Boyds, was transported to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries sustained in the collision.
Following a months-long investigation, detectives concluded that Richardson was responsible for the crash. Police cited excessive speed and impairment as key contributing factors leading up to the collision. Based on the findings, authorities filed multiple charges against Richardson, reflecting the seriousness of the incident and the circumstances surrounding it.
The charges include manslaughter by vehicle, negligent homicide while under the influence, and several additional related offenses.
