A man who had been wanted in connection with multiple serious offenses is now in custody following a multi-county vehicle pursuit that unfolded in the early morning hours in Frederick County, Maryland. According to law enforcement officials, the incident began shortly after midnight on Thursday when deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a Hyundai traveling along Crestwood Boulevard. At approximately 12:15 a.m., officers signaled the driver to pull over; however, the driver refused to comply and instead accelerated away from the scene, heading northbound on Route 85.
Authorities later identified the driver as 27-year-old Suba Washington Jr. of Williamsport. Officials confirmed that the vehicle involved in the pursuit was registered to Washington, who was already being sought by law enforcement in Washington County. At the time of the chase, he was wanted on several serious charges, including kidnapping, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and reckless endangerment.
As the pursuit continued, Washington’s vehicle was involved in a collision with another car near the intersection of Buckeystown Pike. Despite the impact, police reported that no injuries resulted from the crash. Deputies maintained pursuit as the vehicle entered Interstate 270 and later transitioned onto Interstate 70 heading westbound. Due to the ongoing danger posed to the public, officers took tactical measures to bring the chase to a safe conclusion.
Near the Middletown exit on I-70, deputies deployed tire-deflation devices, commonly known as stop sticks, which successfully punctured the vehicle’s tires. Even after the tires were flattened, the pursuit continued briefly until the vehicle ultimately came to a stop near the Route 40 exit. The operation involved coordinated assistance from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office as well as the Maryland State Police, ensuring the situation was handled efficiently and safely.
Following the stop, Washington Jr. was taken into custody without further incident. Authorities also reported that a 17-year-old passenger who had been inside the vehicle was safely removed and turned over to police. In addition to the existing warrants, Washington now faces numerous additional charges related to the pursuit, including reckless driving, negligent driving, and attempting to flee or elude law enforcement.
