Montgomery County authorities provided new details regarding the deaths of two 28-year-olds in Silver Spring, describing the case as a domestic-related murder-suicide. According to the Montgomery County Department of Police, investigators believe that Demetreis Lee fatally stabbed Andrea Guirola inside an apartment before taking his own life by jumping from the building’s 21st floor.
The incident unfolded on Wednesday afternoon, when first responders were dispatched to the 1100 block of University Boulevard West shortly after 1 p.m. When emergency personnel arrived, they located Lee’s body near the apartment complex’s pool area. Several witnesses reportedly told officers they had seen Lee on a balcony moments before he fell.
As investigators moved through the building to determine where Lee had come from, officers reached the 21st floor. There, they discovered Guirola on the hallway floor suffering from multiple stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Police later said that a witness reported seeing Lee attack Guirola inside an apartment unit and that she had managed to reach the hallway before collapsing.
During the search of the area, officers recovered a knife outside the building, which they believe was the weapon used during the stabbing. Detectives continue to piece together the sequence of events that led to the violent encounter between the two.
As of Friday, the Montgomery County Police Department was awaiting official findings from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, which had not yet issued final determinations regarding the causes of death.
The case remains under investigation by the department’s Major Crimes Division – Homicide Section, which is examining all available witness accounts, evidence collected at the scene, and background information related to the individuals involved. Authorities have said that, based on the preliminary evidence, the tragedy appears to be isolated to the two individuals and poses no further threat to the community.
