Authorities in Prince George’s County have announced that a Hyattsville Police Department officer, identified as Jonathan Monge, was taken into custody following a grand jury indictment involving serious allegations connected to a minor. Monge, who has served with the department for five years and reached the rank of corporal, is now facing several felony charges as part of an active investigation.
According to officials, the indictment includes multiple counts related to misconduct involving a minor. Specific details about the timeline and location of the alleged incidents have not been released, as authorities are prioritizing the privacy and protection of the young individual involved. Prosecutors noted that additional information will be withheld at this stage due to the sensitive nature of the case.
The Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office, led by State’s Attorney Tara Jackson, issued a public statement confirming the indictment. Jackson emphasized that because the case involves a minor, all disclosures will remain limited until further legal proceedings take place.
Shortly after the announcement, Hyattsville city officials released a joint letter signed by Mayor Robert Croslin, City Administrator Tracey Douglas, and members of the Hyattsville Police Department’s leadership team. The letter acknowledged the charges and confirmed that Monge has been placed on administrative leave without pay while the investigation continues.
City leaders stressed that the allegations are being taken extremely seriously. In addition to cooperating with the State’s Attorney’s Office, the Hyattsville Police Department has initiated its own internal administrative review to ensure full transparency and accountability.
